With agriculture as a key industry, and with a significant part of the agricultural sector relying on imports, it is of great concern that the sector is increasingly vulnerable to disruption.
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) is now undertaking a review of the sector, and is currently assessing the state of agriculture in Australia, and the extent to which existing trade agreements are contributing to this challenge.
The review will look at the extent of agricultural trade barriers, and its impact on the Australian economy, and how these trade agreements affect Australian agriculture.
The review is currently underway and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2019.
