ROME, Italy — — A film that is a celebration of Italy’s history and a celebration that takes place in a rural town has been the most popular and the best-rated film of the month in the Italian market, according to a new report from Fox.
In the month of September, the film, The Lion King: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, was the most-watched film in Italy, with an average audience of 6.7 million viewers and a rating of 94 percent.
The film’s average audience also topped 9.2 million in other European markets, including France and Germany.
In 2018, The Wizard of Oz opened to an audience of 5.8 million viewers.
The Wizard ended up in second place, with 3.9 million viewers, and was the top-rated movie in Europe for the month.
The Warner Bros. animated feature also earned an average rating of 92 percent, while its average audience topped 2.6 million viewers in the U.S. and the U.-Korea region.
The final tally of the 2018 film was 4.7.
Fox’s annual World Cinema Ranking takes into account international box office results, including international ticket sales, domestic box office grosses and foreign ticket sales.
The rankings are based on data collected through the December 2018 box office, which included all films released in North America, excluding animated films.
